File Extension Z01
File extension Z01 is mostly associated to the segmented zip files labeled by WinZip. The application is designed to reduce the size of a file by performing compression algorithms against them. The reverse process will produce the exact file with the original file extension. WinZip is among the most popular compression/decompression application designed to work on Microsoft Windows environment. Some Windows operating systems including Windows XP incorporate WinZip as their default compression application.
Compressed files, often termed as "File extension Zip" files, change their extensions to the ones specified by the application performing the process. Different applications designate different file extensions for their files. WinZip, developed by WinZip Computing, performs encryption at rates 128-256 bit respectively.
Similar to other popular file compression applications such as WinRaR, Z01 file extension and the likes can be achieved when a user prefers to designate a specific file size of every compressed file. Archives of WinZip's compressed files obtain extensions that start with .Z appending digits 01-99 to every file added. Large files that need to be compressed following specified file sizes will be split into several segments and placed on a main folder. Thus, files inside that folder contain the extensions needed to allow WinZip to identify the position of each part. A user can specify the size of each individual archive.
Zip files downloaded from the Internet or through email attachments may contain worms and viruses dangerous for a computer. New versions of WinZip have the capability of preventing the extraction of suspected files however, not all malicious files are blocked from extraction.
In Windows XP, compressing large files is made easy with the built-in compression application. WinZip can be activated by selecting the file and choosing the Send to compressed file option. Once compressed, files will then be converted in to a WinZip file changing its extension to those implemented by WinZip such as .ZIP or its separate archives.
Compressed files can also be decompressed using the reverse method, but through similar WinZip application. Separate archives will then be integrated. WinZip compressed files can also be decompressed by using other file compression applications such as WinRaR. On the other hand, WinZip can also decompress files zipped with other applications such as .File extension BZ2 and .File extension RaR files.
